GOAL SETTING

2014 Goals

Everyday

Read an hour. Read my Bible.

Create an hour. Blog, scrap, stamp...Host a crafternoon or
           evening every month.

Walk my dogs.

Get organized on how to feed myself and my family healthy meals with occasional indulgences. New recipes/ Pinterest. One Bub recipe per week.

Check my email.

Connect with people. Post an instagram/facebook status everyday but do not let Facebook/Pinterest suck out the life of my days. Send birthday cards/notes.

Cappuccino Run

The boys just got home and then realized they were leaving my truck on empty for me tomorrow so they headed back out.
Hubs always asks if I need a drink from Kiley's because we both share an affinity for really cold pop and we don't really keep it in the house. I said no thanks. Then Bub came back in and said they have this really good looking cappuccino with a long name. He thinks it would be tasty. I told him sure, I'll take a small. He drove them there. In the dark. This scares me silly.

Snow day #2!

SNOW DAY!!

A second snow day leaves us with most of the decorations up but we will be finishing up today.
Baking banana bread and trying to work in the studio.

Cookies!

Friday…
today was our annual Christmas cookie making day. Usually Sally, Sue, Louisa, Kathleen, Kathy, Margaret and I all get together and make cookies to exchange. This year Kathleen wasn't interested, Sally had family things, Sue went on vacation and that left Kathy, Margie and Me for the morning with Louisa coming late. I miss everyone making it a priority. Poo.

Came home picked up the pooches, went to get Bubs from his date, swung through McDonalds-yuck, came home and trying to put things back together. Listing books, organizing books, printing interest,
went upstairs to find Hubs had made the bed ?!?!? that never happens when I leave before he does. He went fishing. 20 degrees and half the lake is frozen and he's fishing.

They got the pontoon in and then the boys headed to visit an old friend, leaving me to gather my senses.

From Wednesday...
Yesterday little man got his temps to drive. Old. Scared. Really nervous. I don't think I'll ever sleep again.

We were in his room cleaning and lounging and he said, "I have a secret to tell you. Promise you won't tell dad?" Ouch, but of course I promised and worried this could be serious.
"You know that spoiled milk he drank? I had it in my room for a long time and I put it in the fridge."
Hilarious. This is the secret I like keeping!

Watching November Christmas on Hallmark. First great one of the season. A tearjerker for sure.

Sunday night Bubs made Libierian Rice Bread (like banana nut bread) and it was delicious! He made it all by himself.

Lived fully

We went to early service this morning because Bubs is going on a photo shoot with his girlfriend. Can't wait to see those pics.

Hubs was talking about cussing today at dinner. Asked my opinion. Don't think he liked my answer. Drinking, cussing, and such- how does that rank with how you treat someone? If someone.. not my husband I promise… doesn't drink or cuss but does not reflect the love of Jesus to others, coworkers, family. Rather he drank and cussed and treated others and his family with love? Absolutely. Why do we equate drinking and cussing with those who don't know Jesus? I say that as I sit here with my computer, a good book and some spirits to imbibe. I don't think that reflects poorly on my relationship to Christ. But if I ignored my family, talked to them like dirt, treated them poorly and didn't imbibe then that's ok? That's Christlike? It's complicated. No I don't think I should go around cursing like it is normal conversation but I don't think cursing makes me a hypocrite when I pray or talk to others about Jesus. I don't. I think I can have a glass of wine while sitting next to someone and talk about how our spiritual lives. Why not? I'm not drunk with wine, I'm drinking a relaxing beverage. I think we are screwed up as a society deciding what is right or wrong for others while we spend way too little time living our authentic lives.

Reading Unbroken by Hillenbrand for book club Thurs. I'm entangled in tartan throws, two dogs and pillows while the fire roars to our left and I keep seeing leaves fall beyond the picture window. I'm sipping a concoction called Bonfire, smelling a candle titled Cabin Fever and hearing the fire crackle. I'd say its a pretty good day.

I want to work on being more honest. Saying what I'm thinking instead of having nothing to say. One life. Lived fully.

Thankful Posts on Facebook

Day 9  Yesterday's thankful post- I'm thankful for where we've made our life. Blanchester has given us good jobs, good friends and a community where 'everybody knows your name'.

last catch up Day 8 Thankful for these thankful posts. Seriously! Knowing I'm going to post one makes me look for the good in the day. Something will happen and I'll think, "Oh! I'll make this my thankful post today!" and then something else will happen and I'll say, "No! This will be my thankful post!" I'm thankful I have so much to be thankful for! (and for exclamation points  )
catching up Day 7… I am thankful for my students… this morning a student came in and read her college essay to me and it is BEAUTIFUL and this afternoon a student came in and read aloud to me a page from Dracula that I gave him last week, "Isn't that beautiful language Mrs. Lovin?" yes, yes it is… then I watched another student greet our vets and get their information for our program today and she just shined in her element. I love to see them find their place and take charge. BTW Jeff Glass that last one was your daughter! She did such a fantastic job today
.
Missed Day 6 Thankful post… I love, love, love working at Blanchester High School with friends who have become family. Several days this week I found myself an hour after school, standing in the hall talking with friends about books, tv shows, life and such. Yesterday I was job shadowed by a librarian from another district who reminded me how blessed I am that staff and students come to the library for help AND that my admin make it so I can help them. It's a wonderful life and job and I am thankful. Not even going to try to tag you all!
I missed Day 4's Thankful post so… I am so thankful that we get to ride together to school again, post football. Basketball practices are much shorter so I stick around and John is coaching) AND that today we saw 2 coyotes on our favorite road and 1 was about the size of Marina our lab mix (70lbs-ish) GORGEOUS!!!
Day 5 thanksgiving - The pups and I are thankful for our daily walks especially at this beautiful time of year... Crunchy leaves, lovely breezes,

Day 3 I am so thankful Harbor Lovin spent the day with me at church and then shopping. I came out with 2 pair of socks while he made out like a bandit but a sharp dressed one! We had lunch and dinner together with lots of shopping in between. I'm thankful that our taste in clothes is close and that we enjoy each other's company. What a fabulous day with a THE greatest kid a momma could ask for.
Yesterday's Thankful post- I'm thankful for lazy Saturdays that I don't leave my house but instead recharge from a busy week and get ready for the next. For watching old movies and playing boardgames with the guys (even though I lost every one) and making s'mores and cuddling with the pups under a tartan blanket while the fire roars in front of us. Lovely, lovely day.
So I missed yesterday's kick off of Thankful posts… I love to craft and I'm very thankful I have such good friends who like to craft with me. It's inspiring and therapeutic to be with a group of people who knit, needlepoint, stamp, and bead along side each other.

Yesterdays

Why is it I don't post much except on lazy saturdays?
I caught up on Facebook and Pinterest sitting before the fire.
Working on my novel and incorporating romance into it.
Watching The Host. Not so good Al.
Still catching up on Revenge.
Fixed some pizza bites for the boys and a green smoothie for myself.

And then forgetting the post until the next day!!

Last Saturday

Ahh November…
I rang in the new month yesterday by hosting a crafty evening. Mom, Yo, Marg, Kathy, Bev, Jan, and I met up about 4 and knit, needlepointed, stamped, and beaded our little hearts out. Oh and I cooked up some Pinterest recipes. Tomato Tortelini soup, fall sangria, fall chex mix, Lovely.
Mom and Yo pulled in the lake just before me and as I followed them across the dam I wondered why Yo was slowing down. Then I saw her taking a pic with her phone. Yep we are sisters.
This perfect saturday morning I drew a cuppa and sat down to check facebook after being off for a few days.
I put on a mulled cider wax tart and then later couldn't figure out where that smell was coming from.
Watching You've Got Mail and dreaming about a Starbucks Tall Skim Caramel Macchiato.
I joined up National Novel Writing Month to spur me on to getting that novel on paper.
Now I'm at my studio table getting my craft on...
listening to the pinterest thanksgiving playlist....

Perfect Timing

Yesterday Mom, Dad, and I put up about 25 bags of freezer corn. While we were working on the back porch Dad spotted dear in the back field. Thanks Lord for the timing.
Today was our last weekday of the summer off work. Lovely. We lounged around, made potato cakes for breakfast and put things back in place.

There's No Place Like Home

Home, home on the range!
I've been gone a week and I came back to an RV being moved into the yard beside me and neighbors out the back yard. Oh and 5 new lbs. Of course.

Reading my bible this morning and came across this verse...
Genesis 50:20
You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done the saving of  many lives.
It reminds me of the whole football scandal and how incredibly painful that was. Knowing Hubs was not at fault but in charge so therefore found at fault. I really felt those in power intended him harm. And I held onto this verse. Since then so many times people have commented on the way he handled it with grace. I try to remember all the times I couldn't understand why God could let this happen to such a godly man, take him out of the position to touch so many lives and then let the program be run into the ground. But after reading this verse again today I think it's not my place to know the details. It is what it is and we did all we could to make the outcome different. We were not at fault. God makes the outcome work to his advantage and I am at peace with that.

Time to get back on track, start making those pounds melt away. I can't delay any further because I will have nothing to wear to work!

Getting my plan for when school starts together....
Focus on meal planning. Post breakfast choices, lunch choices and plan ahead for dinners we can fix over and over and then try something new each week.
Porch projects: go through a magazine a day.

I sure have become a oenophile- a lover of wine. We didn't even eat alot of sweets over the vacation but we drank lots of wine and fruity drinks, made delicious dinners and lounged around to our hearts desire.

A few observations...
Do not waste your time talking to people who are not listening to you.
Do not waste your efforts on people who do not appreciate your gestures.
No one likes to be bossed around, told what to do or how to do whatever it is you are doing better or differently.
It does not matter if a person deserves to hear what you have to say. If you hurt their feelings you are going to feel like crap.
Don't tell everything you know. Mysteries are a good thing.

And a few memories...
It is not ok to ask the sales clerk for a piece of paper and proceed to copy down a recipe from one of their books.
It is not ok to try to make contact with drivers of other vehicles.
We spent an evening making letters with our bodies in the pool and then proceeded to play an alphabet game that had us naming sweet treats for every letter of the alphabet. Caleb, a six year old, thought we were having so much fun he wanted to join us. Then he told us we needed more water in our sippy cups. Yes Caleb, yes we do.
When Weezey came out with just her coverup and no cookie monster shorts on Marg asked, "Weez where are your shorts?" "I'm too fat." Cue hysterical fit of laughter.

Boys came home from fishing all day together and ask if we can play scrabble together. Absolutely.

Barnacles!

I've not been sleeping well on this trip but better last night. I didn't look at the time until after 6am! I do like to get up and head out to the porch for some alone time before the troops awake.

Yesterday we went to the Sea Pines Plantation and Resort and the Harbour Town lighthouse. We toured, shopped and then ate at the Salty Dog Cafe. Lovely, lovely day. We had frozen libations at the Beach Club at Sea Pine Resort while watching the waves come in. We enjoyed Jake's Cargo shop provided some goodies to take home. I really think Bub is going to like the huge sweatshirt blanket I bought him.

A short stop by Barnacle Bill's produced scallops and flounder. I quickly came back and fixed up jasmine lime coconut rice w both fishes pan fried. delicious!

After being with the same people day after day, hour after hour, it helps to go take a walk, blow some steam off and then come back refreshed and more patient.

One thing that is a major pet peeve for me is when someone is talking with the intention of other people not in their group overhearing them and impressing them. Not classy.

One trait that is most desirable in a friend is one who hears you in your most open and vulnerable and then doesn't use that later to try to make you feel smaller or exposed.

love taps

I'm finally at the beach and the boys are at the state tournament this morning.

We left on Friday morning at 5:50am and headed to the Biltmore Estate to tour the building and grounds. For lunch I visited The Bean Trees Cafe in Tennessee for the second time. Last time I think we were on our way back from Myrtle Beach. The food is ok, the atmosphere is gorgeous and hippyish with the Big Pigeon river flowing behind it. We sat out on the back porch and heard the rushing water.

The Biltmore was interesting and intriguing. I really loved the gardens, especially the sangria at the end in the conservatory.

At the end of a very long day traveling the 6 hours to the Biltmore we checked into our hotel only to have barely gotten our showers before the smoke alarms went off. We took forever to 1- figure out what that noise was, 2- decide if we wanted to leave, 3- decide what to take with us. Pitiful. We are not to be rushed!

Facebook posts...

Sooo glad I got n the shower at the hotel 1st bc some drunk set off the fire alarm... Gonna b awhile!

So y'all made fun of my scavenger hunt when I pulled it out at the start of the trip but you sure did perk up when we crossed off fire truck, ambulance, flashing red light, and police car all in about 15 minutes last night!

The scavenger hunt paper I printed off before leaving had provided lots of laughs.

Saturday we stopped in Spartenburg at Mon Amie Morning Cafe, a French style cafe, where they served my Cafe Au Lait in a tall mug with an Eiffel Tower on it. Lovely.
I also had the monte cristo and frites, amazingly delicious.
Last night we ate at It's Greek to Me, Margy's choice. Food was good, moscato was delicious!

I'm not sleeping well on this trip going to bed late and waking up early. No troubles I guess is not exhausting. After a nice morning on the porch Marg and I headed down to the hot tub and pool early to check out the digs and relax and then off to the grocery after a short planning meeting. Nice to go grocery shopping by myself and choose a few goodies I don't normally get... a mango gelato, glazed crullers, chips and dip. Then back to grab lunch and head to the beach.
facebook post...

To the beach!

And we're off! Today I travel to Yo's for book club and then spend the night so we are all in one place to head out at 5:30 am tomorrow. We'll see the Biltmore at noon then spend the night and it is TO THE BEACH!

Lots of last minute things this morning! But first I had to have some porch time with facebook and pinterest posting this as my status.

2 nightmares last night 1- I'm leaving for vacation this morning and I forgot to sync the BEACH PLAYLIST on my ipod so we had to listen to the radio for 6 hours-NOOOOOOO. 2- I showed up to work the high school open house today and forgot to take Harbor Lovin with me- he went fishing... bad mother of the year award securely in hand.....

French Press

I broke down and bought the french press. I started with the Mr. Coffeemaker, then the Keurig, then the  Moka and now the french press. Ahh addiction... it could be worse.

Yesterday I used my grandmother's sewing machine to sew Bub's t-shirt quilt strips together. It was so wonderful to revisit the memories she made with that machine, while making memories with my two good friends helping me make the quilt, that will no doubt help Bub revisit the memories those t-shirts represent!

I think we've got neighbors. Please, please, please let them be cool. A crafter would be nice. And another dog owner. And a lover of food. A gardener.
In other news another neighbor has had an RV parked in their yard for about 2 weeks now. I'm beginning to think this is their idea of home expansion.

I put up a hummingbird feeder a week or so ago and within the day they came to visit. Just now one came right by my head to visit it.

friends

So I was thinking this morning about friends and how careful I am to watch Bub pick his friends and attentive to their qualities and I realize I don't do the same with my own.

Yesterday was spent with three friends. Two who offered to help me with a crafting project and have devoted countless hours on my project. One who I love dearly and am concerned about her health and well being. Last night and this morning I was thinking of the qualities of all my friends and how they measure up (or don't) to what I expect of Bub's friends.

Are they nice? to you? to other people? to your family and friends?
Will they keep your secrets?
Will they make you feel safe and then use what they learn against you?
Are they the same with you as they are once you both get around other people?
Will they talk you into doing things that aren't in  your best interest?
Will they help you become a better person?
Is it an equal relationship? Do you like them and give to them as well as receive from them?
Is it a friendship of convenience? You live close by, go to school or work together but would never be friends if not?
Are they so needy its exhausting? or are you?
Do they have self destructive behaviors?
Do you share common interests?
Do you have anything to talk about other than other people you both know?
Do they try to make you feel stupid or inferior?
Do you feel like you try to act better than them or smarter than them?

I have many good friends. Friends who to varying degrees are good and not so good for me.

This past spring five of us traveled to Hocking Hills to celebrate two of them retiring. We ate, lounged, played Apples to Apples, cooked together, drank together, hiked together and just did life together. And it was soothing and refreshing and I left thinking I could tell these ladies anything and they would support me and be there for me and love on me. Now that my friend is friendship plain and simple.

At the start of the summer a few friends and I went to a book reading in Columbus and again, strolling the streets, eating in a cafe, browsing a book store, I felt at home with people who get me.

I've had such a lovely summer filled with porch time reading, face booking, pinteresting, relaxing with a beverage and sleeping, studio time crafting and sorting my paperwork. My house is in order but my basement and garage and not up to speed.
I've made it to the City Flea twice, hung out at Yo and Kathy's pool which might I say is some of the best relaxing I've done, watched my garden grow, watched for deer in the bak field.
I have thoroughly enjoyed all my puppy time just hanging out or taking them swimming.
My stand up paddle board has been wonderful and I hope to use it more soon.

Yesterday after quilting and swimming M and I stayed around to watch the storm roll in on K's back porch. It was so surreal and lovely! I didn't take any pictures, just sat and had a glass of wine and wondered in His marvelous beauty.

I've made several batches of the energy balls this summer and twice people exclaimed wow these are really good. I admit it. I'm a compliment addict. They make all the work worth it.

today's Facebook posted with the videos of course

alrighty, i've thoroughly enjoyed the Blurred Lines video discussion this summer as well as the video and when i watched this mock video today i laughed the ENTIRE time. Only watch after you've watched the original Blurred Lines video AND only if you have a warped sense of humor!

#36 of #84

Hitting the Summertime Plan hard today with cinnamon/honey water, porch devotion, porch yoga and now onto laundry, dishes and such.

Sam came yesterday afternoon and his parents just picked him up. Once again people are amazed at the amount of 'stuff' I have. Books especially. I know I need to pare down some with the stuff but it is much harder done than said. I craft, I collect, I have too much stuff. Working on that. And the projects that just are eyesores... driveway, suburban parked, pool table clutter. It's there and it needs to go away.

today's goals...
stick with plan
clean off desk and paperwork
pay bills

watched an Inspector Lewis episode

#23 of #84 day of summer

My quilting circle :) I like calling it that, has now cut out 84 squares of t-shirts and we've started backing them with the sizing. We've worked 2 Tuesdays so far. This past Tuesday M stayed after and we crafted cards, scarves and such. Good times...

#29 of 84 Obsequious

Obsequious is defined as
Obedient or attentive to an excessive or servile degree.

It's a new word for me from recent readings.
I took Stella to get fixed Friday and it has been a negative experience. I don't like this at all. She's not herself, scared and puny. I don't like this at allllll........

The good news is it will keep me grounded at home for a week or two so I'll settle down and I do like that.

Goals for today
Finish Cleaning up email

Finish Grapes of Wrath
Clean the house moving down the plan

clean off the desk, calendars june, july, august
hilton head pics
add pics to face and walgreens, 2013, penny
website remind 101 and weebly bookmarks
scrap screwdriver

And then 5 guys showed up to continue working on our driveway that they started last October...
And then I had to taxi kids to weigh lifting

Day 12 of 84

Lovely day ahead!
I have no immediate plans. Got moving slowly because the boys are leaving at 10am so I sat down with facebook and pinterest till they started moving then helped get some food in their hands.
Then I put things back in place while I finished watching Lara Croft Cradle of Life. Not near as good as the first one. Watched the pilot episode of Warehouse 13 to see if I wanted to finish the series. Maybe.
Rearranged some things. Again.
Drinking Newman's Own Extra Bold Special Blend and it is ok, no caramel drizzle mind you but ok.
Eating PBJ on white because, well, the heels must be eaten.

Day 9 Anniversary!

Anniversary!
Today is our 19th Wedding Anniversary.
We dropped the boys off at Kings Island then headed downtown.

Finally made it to High Street Design Store. I picked up a postcard advertising this store a few years ago and I've driven past it a few times without realizing how you can stop. Parking? Door? But today Hubs just got it done. Any store that greets us with hot tea upon entering makes Hubs suspect and I find it endearing that he walks around saying, "I think we can make that."

Pho Lang Thang- The best coffee I've ever had. Vietnamese drip iced with condensed milk. Also had the Bun- Heo (pork), Ca Phe Sua (hot spring rolls) and a Cha Gio is what the coffee is called. Hubs picked up some Taste of Belgium waffles to take home. I ended up with pieces of one salvaged from the car after the boys took them with them to work. He also picked a small key lime pie out for us and we ate that at the dining tables outside.... yes OUTSIDE. The man ate outside for me on our anniversary.

Dropped back by REI to take a looksie at the the story the boys are having my stand up paddleboard delivered to later this week. And picked up a pair of LIGood pants for the Hubs on clearance- YA BABY. Then by the Anthropologie sale closet! New skinnies, tea shirt- pun intended, and camisole for me.

Listening to...
The Editors
Green Light Morning

Wondering about the Bunbury Festival held here in Cincy.

Thinking we should try out Glen Helen.

Looking at the succulents I picked up at last week's farmers market in Loveland and the beach tag that adorns our front door.

Last night at The Book Loft they had a few shelves organized by the publishers such as Taschen.
I also loved the iced tea, pomegranate and hibiscus macaron and sangria infused cake aka The chocolate bombe from Pistacia Vera. We ate at Katzinger's Deli which was really good. A reuben and a cherry kugel which is like a pasta kinda thing. Then after browsing for books we stopped by a small cafe for some yummy desserts. Picked up a signed copy of Pollan, met David Sedaris- up close and personal, and had a rollicking good time :)

Last Sunday the boys came home and we went to see Fast and Furious 6. Not bad.

Last Friday we went to a reading by Kahed Housani and had dinner at Cafe Martin and had a small kurtster pizza and a smirnoff razz. Delicious. Cafe Martin is part of the Garfield Plaza.

Reading Behind the Kitchen Door. Good behind the scenes information to take into consideration as we all vote for better working conditions while choosing to eat sustainably.

Day 4

Goal today... organize my books
Drinking Green Mountain Island Coconut, 1776 Beverage Company Classic Creme Soda, Tazo Green Tea
Catching up on Monk Season 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

Day 3

Things are going slowly...
Drinking Just Good For You Brew I picked up at the Loveland Farmers Market... very berry.

I'm rethinking switching the studio because there is so much I don't want to put back in there but where to put it.

Watched Arrested Development last night and it was great! Apparently lots of episodes to go and a new season on Netflicks.
Then, this morning I watched The Switch and it was adorable!

Goal for the day is to put things back into place, catch up on laundry.
Also watching Columbo from the start. Got through seasons 1, 2 and 3.

Took the girls swimming this evening to cool off and to fix the boat that seemed to get loose.
Then I sorted clothes that are unfortunately too small for now. I vow to get back into the larger too smalls by the end of the summer.

Tuesday, May 28, 2013

Day 2

Bit of a rush today to get things picked up to make it to the trail on time to walk, shop at the farmers market, make a goodwill stop, and a target run. I have got to get things put back in place tomorrow.

The Loveland Farmers Market was delicious. Blue Oven had chocolate croissants- tasty. Branstrator Farm had asparagus, broccoli, and cauliflower. I met Kathleen to walk on the trail for an hour then we went to the market and had lunch at Jillian's Deli.

Afterward I ran over to Goodwill and picked up a Frishes Diet Vanilla Coke and Acapulco's chips and salsa.

Friends from back when

The boys have pulled out with the boat and I am on the couch with a cuppa of french roast.
thursday I ate at Stonecreek with a dear friend and had scallops risotto sausage and micro greens
crabcakes with chickpeas and aoila
Just got off of the phone with an old friend 1 hr runtime. That is a very long phone conversation for me but it was lovely.
