I forgot how nostalgic Dial and Deal on the radio is. One guy in a radio booth taking calls from people trying to sell their belongings. I don't need anything just find it fascinating we still do this.

I commented on Adiaphane's blog post discussing getting odd looks from people because of the way she dresses. I had forgotten this story...
Once I was at a race track (yeah long story) with my husband and dressed a little oddly. Got some stares and was feeling a little uneasy until one of the girls came up and asked if I was Gretchen Wilson (the country singer) I laughed said no. She looked under my hat, squinted to see through my glasses and said she didn't believe me. So I always just assume when I get weird looks they must think I'm someone famous! Works for me! Here's a cute pick of Adiaphane...

And now off to middle school basketball. Far away game.

Some inspiration from Tammy Tutterow.

I'm cooler

How many times in one week can I hear the word steam punk? The latest is from Nancy Pearl's recommendation of Soulless by Gail Carrigan. It was also referred to when I was gathering books for my booktalks to seniors monday talking about Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan. Then this necklace on etsy by Southwest Sky. I don't really see how it fits in steampunk. Defined by Wikipedia- steampunk involves an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century and often Victorian eraBritain—that incorporates prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy.
Which then led me to this photo of a steampunk styled desktop.

Nothing to see here folks...

Dress down day today and a much needed break called for hoodie, jeans and Uggs. Ugg!

Hub's said we will commence dieting on Monday. Yes I know I make serious fun of people who say, "I'm starting my diet.... Monday... Tomorrow... in the summer... in January." However we both have vowed to lose 30 by the end of the school year. I always do so much better when he joins me. Remember the honey bun story? Yes. Not having them bring junk in is half the battle.

Here Kitty, Kitty

I scored this Odille coat at Second Chance Consignment in Columbus last fall. Love. It. The Lucky Brand Cat sweater is from One More Time's consign sale this month. Cheap. One of my students asked why I was wearing pink shoes though. Didn't see the cardi as pink. Opps.

Marina says it rocks though. She would like the cat to come visit so she could, ahem, say hello.

Walking on thin ice

Several meetings today called for a suit.

Bub's and I took Marina girl for a good, long walk this evening. Bub's rode his bike and sometimes let me ride it so he could go walk on the frozen puddles. Is spring on its way?

Dreamer

Yes I wish I had taken more pics to choose from but alas the only picture with the outerwear included. I bought this Bill Blass trench back in the summer for next to nothing. And it was high time the coin purse cardigan made another appearance.
A while back I stopped in the goodwill boutique in Montgomery and bought this sparkle for 50% off.

A few thrifted finds of late...

Sigh~

Wiener dog art is everywhere

Taking a virtual nap through Where the Lovely's post here

Went to services today and the message was forgive, let go, let God. This is so applicable to my life right now and I still say but, but, but. Hubs says, No but. Don't rationalize. But :) seriously I say God would not make the decisions that are being made. Kids will be hurt, lost and further left behind. He would not do that. Those (implied) I should forgive... to me it isn't about forgiveness it is black and white, right and wrong. And once again that's all I can say about that. But :) speaking a spiritual note on a very public blog that mainly showcases fashion, crafting and reading I feel very alone in times like these when I want to talk it out spiritually about God, the world, prayer and such. Sigh.

And on to those pesky goals.
It took me forevah to get dressed today because I am 30 lbs over where I spent the majority of my adult years. Therefore things don't fit like I want them. I then spent the day flipping through fashion magazines on the way to church, dinner and errands and actually I think it reenforces the fact that those 30 lbs have to go if I want to feel 'normal' again. I don't mean model thin I mean my normal. Fashion gives me a creative outlet and right now it is killing the joy to put an outfit together. So feeling like I might finally be catching the train again.

Below zero

via oprah

So as I said a few days ago times have been busy doing responsible adult business... and frankly I'm tired of it. So yesterday I vowed to create, play, read and such. (And go to one appointment I couldn't get out of- but I read on the way there and back since I wasn't driving!)

This long sweater doubles as outerwear.
Marina wanted in the pics today.
The best thing about non work days... stretchy pants! I knew I was going to keep the long sweater on since we were going to a restaurant and it was -7 this morning when I left home. Uggs as a must in 5 inches of snow.
This is the first time I've worn this bottle cap necklace I picked up at the Christmas art fair. It fits right on the clasp with a magnetic back. And the book earrings are in honor of book club today! And finally since Ms. Madeline was going to be there I wore the bracelet she sent me for Christmas.

Today I had book club at noon at Padrino's (fabulous as always).
We discussed Mennonite in a Little Black Dress. Remember I was not impressed but as always we had a lively discussion. When I was growing up I heard the saying, Don't rise above your raising. A lady - yes really very refined- said it a different way, Don't fart above your arse. HA! These older ladies never cease to amaze me with the wisdom and wit.
I finished Fallen by Lauren Kate last night. A young adult novel about a fallen angel and the mortal he has fallen for. Ok. The girls at my school love it but I've read much better. However certain books I read because one of my first students said, 'you should read The Green Mile. I read everything you tell me now you should read what I say.' So I did and it was one of the best books I've read. I haven't read another Stephen King, he's a tad to gruesome for me but The Green Mile was quite a read.

Getting ready this morning I found Marina sitting in her bed with the note in front of her just as pictured. It is the shoot-a-thon info letter bubs and hubs were to go to this morning. This is one of those times you think your dog must have thumbs. She went and got this off the table, sat it in front of her and said, 'Hey you people I know you are leaving me yet again today so don't forget your paperwork. Whatever.' Bless her heart.
Here are the books I read last year that I own. I just needed a visual.

And a little web love...

I've heard about The Coveted twice this week so I'm bookmarking and checking it out! It has interesting inspiration pages of designers.
And on Founders and Followers my boots!

Cleaning up my desk I found a card from Sweet Stella Designs where I saw the librarian's pendant. However I recall she had cut cupcake rings but sadly not for sale currently.

2011 Goals: 3 weeks in I should be making more progress. I will... Monday.
Follow the Plan
Eat less, Move more
I'm only -3 lbs with 27 to go. Yuck not doing so well and I need to ramp it up.
Eating Yesterday we had chocolate syrup over biscuits and grape jam for breakfast- yet another snow day with 3 boys in the house who do not know what a calorie or carb is.
Sipping Coke Zero Vanilla and Oatmeal Cookie Cappuccino. Seriously I turned around after reading it on Speedway's sign. Could that possibly be right? Do they mean oatmeal cookies and cappuccino? No all in one baby. Although it probably has the calories of both cappuccino and dozen cookies.
Be nicer I need to slow down. We are so busy even with snow days I want to slow down and enjoy each other.
Spend less, live within my means A short stop at St. Vincent on the way home. $14. for a blazer, Lucky brand pants, a dress and shoes. Score.
Create more
Read more, Watch more
3 weeks in and 4 books down not bad. 7 movies but a lot of those I already saw but hey.
In the background today Jurassic Park II is on. I loved all things Jurassic. Then Parent Trap- the Lohan version. Ahh how did it all go so wrong for her? And I didn't notice that their mother in the movie is name's Elizabeth James. A small nod to Elizabeth and James the Olsen line. Fashion designer- Fashion line. Maybe.

Clean and Organize not today, well I cleaned off my desk before playing.
