Etiquette

Finished McCall’s Book of Everyday Etiquette: A guide to modern manners by Margaret Bevans. And yes I read the whole thing. Over the course of a few years but still. Currently I am at 48 books this year and I need to be at 52 by end of Sep to make my goal of 70 books this year. Last year I read 60 and I knew I needed to step up my game. My friend B put me to shame last year after I was feeling pretty smug about how much I read. Then she told me her "number." I scrapped with her Saturday and mentioned this. She smirked as she told me she had already surpassed 70. Poop.
A few others I don't think I've mentioned...

All the Pretty Horses- McCarthy. Listened to Brad Pitt read the audio. Great voice... I mean story.
Jazz Bird- Holden. Read for the staff and friends book club. Great regional read that mixes history and real life crime with an author's imaginings.
Still Missing- Recommended by a friend. Fast and OK.
Living Dead Girl- Scott. A YA read that is gripping and edgy and gets the girls attention. Spread quickly by word of mouth.
September means bare legs still but this week has gotten progressively colder so October will bring with it tights. Hubs says that's not a good thing. I didn't know he didn't like my tights. Maybe I'll wade in with leggings for awhile.

Time for a change in the mantel. Not sure if I took pics of what it has been sporting lately.
Like the pics in jars? I like this one of me, my sister, and my dad...
but not so much this one of a very young teacher couple
Stopped at the local farmers' trucks today and met the lady of the farm we like. We buy corn off her son in town summers and stop at the farm and chat with her husband. Nice to meet his better half. Also supported an older challenged gentleman by buying a few smaller items. He was super appreciative. And although he had only a few items he was proud and chatty. Love him.
At the start of every year I walk around my library and lovingly greet all the books like children who've all come home for the holidays. Then they all start leaving again. About this time of year I remember those summer moments fondly as I go searching for books that aren't there. Sadness.

In Book Retailing, Neatness Doesn't Count

In Book Retailing, Neatness Doesn't Count

I love this quote..."Some people don't like too much order in bookshops and want to feel like they're finding something. You can have 300,000 books perfectly arranged on the shelf, and every time, people will walk in and want to look at the books stacked up on the floor. So if you really want to sell something, jumble it up and pitch it on the floor."--Larry McMurtry, author and owner of Booked Up, Archer City, Tex., in "How to Run a Bookstore" inBloomberg BusinessWeek.

And I have found it to be true. 5000 books in a library organized by Dewey Decimal code and almost without fail each student peruser walks straight to the reshelve cart first.

Routine

My dog really loves routine. Each morning she expects to be taken for a walk. When I walk in the door she continues to run to the bottom of the stairs knowing I should be changing to take her for a walk. Bless her.

Today a girl visiting the library said, "look your bracelet matches your shirt." Yeah I noticed that :)

Snuff said

Not some of my best OOTD pics but documented!
Today Hub's tracked down an unwelcome visitor in the building today. Where's your hall pass mister?!?!?!?
Friday is the first day of Autumn and I'll finally say goodbye to open toe shoes but can I still go bare legged? It's not cold enough for tights yet and I refuse to wear hosiery. Right?
We ended up going to Texas Roadhouse for dinner since we had to drive south to pick something up from my mom's. She and my dad joined us for an impromptu dinner. Nice. Hubs and I are on a diet. He has dropped ten lbs in a week to my 2. Poop. Of course he is so strict it sickens me and I... well
Hubs- "So I heard you ate a piece of cookie cake for breakfast."
Me- "What??!?! Who told you?"
Hubs- "K. tried to give me a piece and I told her we were dieting. She told me."
Me- "Ok but I thought she said coffee cake (sideways glance) not that bad and it was 9am and I didn't have time to eat breakfast. But then it was a cookie cake and she was already cutting it and waited while I ate it!"
Hubs- "um hum"
My mother visited my great aunt in Kentucky last weekend. My great aunt sent Bubs some things including this glass and she wrote the significance of the glass. Love her.

Over the weekend Bubs had his year end party for his fishing league. So apparently I am completely uninformed because they paired off with adults and had a mini tournament and their was a guy from some cable channel there to interview the boys. It was precious. These boys are anywhere from about 12- 18 and they stared into the camera and were INTERVIEWED. Priceless.
 Autumn has come to Ohio
Caught a 1.5 lber to weigh in
Marina and I were there cheering them on
Bubs actually chose to fish with his grandpa
