We started planning our friends Thanksgiving for the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Hubs does not know how to edit a guest list so we end up with all the people he must have there. Bless his heart. 

Lately I've been working with a student who has no family. Very difficult.  And I wonder what his Thanksgiving looks like. I've heard of 3 other kids who don't have a family to go home to at night. Again. I feel a rumbling. What can I DO. It is no coincidence this paragraph follows the one above. Things are sticky and there is a protocol with teachers and students and foster care. I'm trying to navigate the system.

I've done some reading lately that I haven't blogged about...

I continued The Cat Who series with  The Cat who Moved a Mountain 13- Braun . I always listen to these on audio because I might enjoy the readers voice as much as the books.       

A few reads from my school library. Both of these were ok and I'll be able to recommend to certain readers but I'm not crazy about them.

Judy Collins from last weekend's appearance at Books By the Banks in Cincy. Over 70 and rocking leggings and spike heels. Yeah. And she flossed her teeth on stage prior to being introduced. DIVA and she owned it.

 Dusmesh Indian Restaurant. My first Indian food and wow what an intro. Loved it. Chicken Tandoori, nan bread, and some apps.

Books by the banks, ETC.

Books by the Banks was amazing today. The authors' room has doubled I'm sure. Listened to a panel about modernizing classics. Two Austenites said something like...
We consider Jane our friend ya know? It's not like fans of Charles Dicken's fans refer to him as Charles but when we get together we talk about Jane. We ARE on a first name basis.

Dennis Lahane talk today at Books by the Banks was sooo good. Lahane spoke to the fact that lots of people like to say they are writers but in reality if you call yourself a writer, well, you better just sit down and write, write, write. True. AND he wrote Shutter Island OVERNIGHT. Then tweaked it for a few months but literally overnight wrote the bones of the story out in a dream like state.

Judy Collins was FUNNY. and she sang to us. Wow. Really now I will be getting her new book on audio because she said she reads and sings it. Awesome. She also sang the song on You've got Mail, It's clouds illusions I recall..." She wore leggings a short blazer and spike boots. Oh and sunglasses when she entered the room. DIVA but she should be a diva because her talk, singing, rambling was awesome.

Forgot to mention this guy from Books by the Banks today. This book is a work of genius. He was really funny sitting with the 3 'real authors' in the panel. He even said it has been unbelievable and no he will not be doing something like this again. He felt like he became Captain Ahab with the obsession of finishing the project.

We then went to eat at Dusmesh Indian Restaurant. What a great introduction to Indian food. I had Chicken Tandoori, paneer pakora, and mango lassi. I sampled friends' chicken curry and bhartha. Oh my. I will be returning. OH if only for the nan garlic bread. 

The Factory Flea was still going on in Northside so we headed over there where I found finger knit garland? This appears to be the garland Anthropologie used last holiday season so I've been obsessing over it ever since. 

A final stop by Anthropologie and then home james. . . where I talked hub's ear off about my wonderful day and then jumped over to the mac to get it all down for you. Whoever you may be :)

I've learned a new word -Burl. As in burl and turquoise dresser found via Coco+Kelley. Vocab acquisition yet another reason to cruise blogworld.   

Anthropologie thrilled me with this in my inbox a few days ago. Labels are like art. Agree? Splendid, and Girls from Surry and superb. 

Untalked about

Stopped by Half Priced books and traded in 3 boxes of donated books for a few library copies. Scarred an employee for life I think. Can't share but you should giggle.

Attended an event last night that will remain untalked about but happy halloween...

Travelled to Columbus for my annual conference and once again the girl who usually goes with me couldn't go so I went alone and stayed alone, and shopped alone. Good times really.

Adore, a new favorite Columbus store from the past few years closed. Tried to find Dim Sum and realized it is more of the way of eating a meal than an orderable item. 

Met Sarah Darer Littman, author of Want to Go Private a YA novel and felt that, "Yeah this chick know's what's going on."

Then met Alex Flinn, author of Breathing Underwater and thought, "Gee I should write something." Then she said she wrote like 10,000 pages before anyone would publish her. I am not a patient person. 

Reading The Elegant Witch by Robert Neill, a vintage "fiery novel of witchcraft and adventure" circa 1952 that I have used for decoration in the past because of its cover but decided to read this year.

My apple farm semi retired after their crop failed this year. The boys and I found another farm A&M close to home and actually enjoyed picking our own apples. Golden Delicious.
